Current: Poverty in times of the Corona crisis

Poverty and curfew, more than ever are the needy in need of help in these times!
Many people in need, who live well below the poverty line, do not receive support from the state in the Balkans. Due to the curfews, these groups are particularly hard hit by the corona crisis. The needy and the homeless suffer from a higher risk of infection because they live in miserable hygienic conditions and feed on waste from garbage dumps and waste containers. These people already have various pre-existing health conditions and a weak immune system.
People who are dependent on thrown away food leftovers from others, go in search of food, despite the expected legal consequences and high risk of infection. This crisis hits them twice as hard as usual. Not only do they fear a virus infection, but must also despair the possible persecution by local police and authorities. Unfortunately, there are numerous such cases in the Balkans.
Given the circumstances, the ROMA Charity Foundation has launched an aid program primarily aimed at providing the poorest with food.

Food supply in Kosovo:
A large part of the Kosovar population lives in miserable circumstances below the poverty line. The ROMA Charity Foundation has been distributing food parcels and hygiene products to villages near the Kosovan capital of Pristina since 2018, where a warm meal is prepared and served to the residents. From the transporter to the procurement of food from local retailers - everything is coordinated and carried out by the ROMA Charity Foundation. Two club members are always on site. They listen to the needs and wishes of the residents, and work together with them to create the shopping list for their next visit. Take a look at our gallery and find out more about what we do!

Firewood - Distribution in Kosovo:
The ROMA Charity Foundation is constantly concerned with the question of how living conditions can be continuously improved. Sustainability and durability play a major role in the considerations. Cold winter days require heated rooms where (central) heating systems are a foreign word and will remain so for the time being as the necessary financial expenditure is too high. Nevertheless, the foundation hopes to make use of future donations realize the purchase of radiators.
The association tend to the supply of firewood. Before the cold winter days begin, the foundation ensures the delivery of firewood. Learn more about this project in our gallery.

Construction project in Kosovo:
At the last meeting, the ROMA Charity Foundation decided to implement the construction of a multi-storey building or container, by means of an annual large donation, in order to provide the needy with warm and free accommodation, and to increase the associated improvement of living conditions. For this purpose, a plot of land was purchased in Kosovo. Construction has commenced and the project is currently in progress.

Ensuring water supply in Benin (Ghana), Africa:
In 2018, the ROMA Charity Foundation started and successfully implemented its largest and most extensive project in Ghana. The founding members have gained access to a populated area without any infrastructure and water supply by means of a broad and structured network of contacts. The land was acquired and further developed by the ROMA Charity Foundation. In addition to a religious facility, there is a boarding school on-site with sleeping facilities for both children and their families, a school and classrooms have been set up for all other villagers, and local teachers have been brought in to teach not only the youngest members but also adults basic education and the knowledge of reading and communicative writing.
The absolute highlight in the area is the underground pumping system, which uses wells to ensure water supply for the residents of Benin and the surrounding area. Furthermore, food parcels and school supplies are distributed to the residents at regular intervals. A common meal for all villagers is distributed and takes place at regular intervals. The details and origins of the project can be found in our gallery.

Large donations to local small associations or associations in need in the Balkans:
In the past two years, the ROMA Charity Foundation has visited the so-called “slums” through its own initiative and developed a large network of contacts with people in need - without involving any intermediaries or mediators. In this way, the Roma Charity Foundation can ensure that the semi-annual donations arrive there where it is most needed.
A major donation is made twice a year. Smaller foundations or associations for the people in need have the possibility, by means of our financial assistance, to receive a large donation with which they can proceed with a charitable project in their own village.

                                                                             Our visions

The ROMA Charity Foundation plans to implement further projects in the Balkans - Macedonia, Bosnia, Serbia and Kosovo. In 2020 and 2021, the association plans to construct further housing options for the homeless and needy.

Warm canteen in the Balkans:
The Roma Charity Foundation will open a canteen next year in Mitrovica, near the Kosovan capital of Pristina. Construction of several nationwide canteens is planned in the foreseeable future. Kitchen aids have already been organized. In the first half of the year after launching, a warm meal will be distributed three times a week to the poor. This proposition is to be expanded over time, in which the canteen will then serve a hot meal every day. A future matter of concern of the association is the construction of warm kitchens throughout most of the country.

Construction projects in Africa:
The ROMA Charity Foundation has set the building of additional facilities, such as that in Benin, as an objective in other parts of Africa. The main focus is on supplying one or more villages within the vicinity of the facility to be built. We find it of utmost importance to make a contribution and take social responsibility! Make a contribution too. Based on the experience obtained in the construction of residential buildings, we are able to expedite the project effectively and within the budget limit, but only by means of donations. In the gallery you will get further insights into our work concerning the successful Benin project.

School packages and clothing donations (Africa, Balkans):
The ROMA Charity Foundation plans to distribute school packages to the poor, containing not only exercise books, stationery and backpacks but also books. The association is committed to school education in areas with poor infrastructure. It is a concern of the association to promote school education in the Balkans in the near future.

Furthermore, the association plans to build a second-hand clothing store. The distribution of used clothing is very important to us. Through donations in the village, used clothing is to be distributed at regular intervals to the poor. You can support us by making a contribution of used clothing. Please contact us for further information!

The ROMA Charity Foundation is well networked and supports smaller associations in realizing their projects in the Balkans and on the African continent!
The ROMA Charity Foundation creates jobs and is committed to global sustainability and good working conditions. Fair trade!
